Qiang Huang (pronounced Chong Wong.) was born and raised in Beijing China and he now lives at Austin, Texas. His interest in art was developed when he was very young, and influenced strongly by his uncle, Hong-En Huang, a professional painter and art educator.

For various reasons, he did not get opportunity to study art in any professional art institutions. He studied science and technology instead. He moved to America in 1985, obtained the Ph.D. in physics in 1993, and took a career in optical engineering. However, he has been active in local art communities.

To further develop his artistic skills, he has attended classes and workshops. He studied from well-known artists like David Leffel, Sherrie McGraw, Scott Burdick, and Jean Chambers. His paintings show remarkable accuracy and expressive brush strokes.

Qiang is a Signature member of the Oil Painters of America. His paintings have been selected for the 14th, 15th, 16th, 18th ,19th , and 20th OPA National Juried Exhibitions.  He has received the “Still Life Honorable Mention Award” at the 20th OPA National Show.

InSight Gallery at Fredericksburg, Galerie Kornye West at Fort Worth, and Marta Stafford Fine Art Gallery at Marble Falls, TX represent Qiang’s work.

Qiang’s still life work has been featured in Southwest Art magazine in March, 2011.  Qiang is also one of the self-representing daily painters. He advertises his updated work on his blog, and market his paintings with online auctions.  Qiang has been teaching workshops on still life painting and on-line art business since 2008. American Artist Magazine has featured Qiang’s art and teaching on the 2009 summer issue of the “Workshop” Magazine.
