C.W. Mundy, b.1945, Indianapolis, Indiana, U.S.A.

C.W. Mundy, an American Impressionist Artist, was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana. He graduated with a Fine Art Degree from Ball State University in Indiana in 1969, and following graduation, moved to California, continuing to paint, play music and attend Long Beach State, California to work on a Masters Degree in Fine Art.

Upon returning home to Indiana in 1978, CW lived in Nashville, Indiana, founded Champion Illustrated Sports, and became the first artist / illustrator to work for Bob Knight, the legendary basketball coach at Indiana University.

After a 10 year stint with sports illustration, C.W. took on the challenge in the early 1990’s of painting in a more impressionistic style, going out of doors and painting “en plein air” and “from life".

This painting style led C.W. to a series of annual European Plein Air painting trips, beginning with the exhibition Paysages de France in 1995  and  most recently, Light and Shadow: Venice to Paris, 2009. In addition, C.W. has traveled throughout Indiana, Michigan, and the harbors / artist colonies of the Eastern Coast of the United States and Canada to paint collections en plein air. In the colder, winter months in Indiana, C.W. paints in his studio in Indianapolis, concentrating on Still Life and Figurative Work.

C.W. was invited in 2003 to Master Signature Membership in the national organization Oil Painters of America.  In  2007, C.W. achieved Master Status in The American Impressionist Society. He is also a Signature Member of The American Society of Marine Artists.

Professional affiliations include the California Art Club,  Hoosier Salon, Indiana Plein Air Painters Association, and Indiana Heritage Arts.  In 2003, International Artist Publishing (Sydney, Australia) published and distributed internationally the book Memoirs: Charles Warren Mundy, American ImpressionistCW is currently represented by Gallery 1261 in Denver, CO,  Insight Gallery in Fredericksburg, TX, Anne Irwin Fine Art in Atlanta, GA, and Eckert & Ross in Indianapolis IN.  In his leisure time, C.W. enjoys playing banjo with the bluegrass band The Disco Mountain Boys. In 2011, he recorded his debut album, Road Trip, published by Moon Surf Records.

"I constantly search for the academics, emotion, expression, and at-the-moment character of a scene. Every painting should have a fine balance of these components. Toward that end, each piece develops its own unique personality."   --C.W. Mundy
