Judge's Comments:Delicately subtle. I almost overlooked this painting at first, maybe just because of the subject matter. It’s a scene that can easily be overdone, but not this one. Its beauty is in its subtleness and expert handling of the lowland landscape. The sky is a pleasing 2/3 of the painting. All of the colors are delicately varied to show the depth of the space. The sunset is subdued just right and is in perfect harmony with the clouds. - Bryce Cameron Liston
