Judge's Comments:I selected this masterfully designed composition without hesitation! The diagonal steps, buildings, flowers, figures and clothing patterns all lead to and support the central figure in this genre piece. Compositionally nothing could be added or deleted from this painting. It is flawless. I especially enjoyed the “caught in the moment at work” sensation, the rich secondary color scheme of saturated purples, oranges, greens and complementary pinks parlayed against cool and warm whites. The delicate lavender colored steps, distant cool green building against the blue gray foliage gives the viewer a momentary resting place before returning to the drama again and again.
